The Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Kambia Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sao Vandy, on Saturday, 17 January 2026, formally turned the sod for the construction of a new police station in Khonimaka Chiefdom, Kambia District.
CSP Vandy and his team were accorded a warm traditional welcome by the Chiefdom caretakers, who presented clean water and kola nuts as symbols of respect and goodwill. Women and children further welcomed the delegation with traditional songs, demonstrating unity, hospitality, and strong community support for the project.
Speaking on behalf of the Chiefdom, the caretaker, Pa Alimamy Amara Kamara, expressed profound appreciation to CSP Vandy and the Sierra Leone Police for their continuous engagement and support. He described Khonimaka Chiefdom as peaceful and stable, attributing this to effective coordination, mutual respect, and sustained cooperation between the police and the community.

CSP Sao Vandy officially performed the symbolic turning of the soil using a shovel filled with concrete, signalling the commencement of construction works. He disclosed that the project is fully sponsored by community stakeholders, highlighting strong local ownership and commitment to community-led policing.
The ceremony concluded on a positive note, with community members expressing gratitude to the police and their team for their unwavering efforts in promoting peace, stability, and effective policing in Kambia District.
Residents reaffirmed their commitment to support the construction process and to promptly report any activities that could undermine peace or disrupt the project.
