H.E. Ambassador Zhao Yong, the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, has hosted a grand reception to mark his assumption of office.
The event brought together more than 130 distinguished guests, reflecting the strong and enduring ties between the two nations.
Among the attendees were His Lordship Chief Justice Kamanda, the Minister of Energy and other Cabinet Ministers, Director General Logan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, senior military officers, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of Chinese enterprises, and members of the Chinese community in Sierra Leone.
In his remarks, Ambassador Zhao highlighted the long-standing friendship between China and Sierra Leone, noting that in recent years high-level exchanges have grown increasingly close and practical cooperation has deepened. He reaffirmed China’s readiness to work with Sierra Leone to implement the important consensus reached by the two Heads of State, with the aim of elevating bilateral relations to a new level. He emphasized China’s commitment to building an all-weather China–Africa community with a shared future in the new era.
Speaking on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, Director General Logan warmly welcomed Ambassador Zhao and expressed the country’s appreciation for China’s role as a trusted and reliable partner. He reiterated Sierra Leone’s firm commitment to the One-China principle and underscored the government’s willingness to work closely with China to achieve more tangible outcomes through mutually beneficial cooperation.
The reception was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, symbolizing the deep bond between the two nations. The event received extensive coverage from major Sierra Leonean media outlets, further underscoring its diplomatic significance.
