The National Union of Koinadugu and Falaba Students-Sierra Leone (NUKaFS-SL), under the leadership of H.E Fuad Tejan Kamara and his entire executive members, has announced the inaugural beneficiaries of the Hamid Gbawuru Marah Academic Excellence, Inclusion and Impact Scholarship Award for the 2025/2026 academic year.
A total of sixteen outstanding students have been awarded scholarships valued at approximately NLe 105,595. Ten of the scholarships were sponsored by Mr Hamid Gbawuru Marah and his family, while six others were funded by independent sponsors who share a commitment to advancing education and promoting social impact.

The beneficiaries, drawn from a wide range of disciplines including Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Education, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Public Administration, and Project Management, are currently studying at various tertiary institutions across Sierra Leone. They have been recognised for their academic excellence, resilience, leadership qualities, and potential to contribute meaningfully to national development.
According to the union, the scholarship initiative was established in response to the rising cost of tertiary education and the urgent need to support high-achieving students facing financial constraints. It underscores a shared belief that access to education should be determined by merit, potential, and determination rather than circumstance.

While celebrating the achievements of the sixteen beneficiaries, NUKaFS-SL noted that several other deserving students remain on a waiting list due to limited funding. The union therefore, called on alumni, well-wishers, development partners, philanthropists, and stakeholders from Koinadugu, Falaba, and beyond to support the expansion of the initiative.
“Every contribution, regardless of size, has the power to transform a life, uplift a family, and strengthen our communities,” the union stated.

The organisation expressed gratitude to Mr Hamid Gbawuru Marah, all independent sponsors, members of the Awards Committee especially Mr. Bando Marah alumni, and supporters whose contributions made the initiative possible.
The union also congratulated the beneficiaries, urging them to translate their academic excellence into impactful contributions to society.
