President Julius Maada Bio on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, launched the Sierra Leone-China joint education initiative at the Freetown Technical College in Jui.
The initiative is a collaboration between the China Railway Seventh Group, Zhengzhou Railway Technician College, and Freetown Polytechnic, formerly known as Freetown Teachers College.
The programme reflects growing cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) between China and Sierra Leone, particularly under the People-to-People and Belt & Road initiatives. It focuses on specialised technical training designed to strengthen the country’s vocational education system.
The initiative aims to align vocational education with industrial practices in Sierra Leone. Key elements include skills transfer, curriculum development, and practical training, all intended to equip students with industry-relevant competencies and prepare them for careers in technical fields.
