The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has confirmed that it is investigating the alleged homicide of Catherine Valentina Kamanda, a Matron at Connaught Hospital and Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS). Kamanda, who resided at No. 5 Kamanda Drive, Peninsula, Goderich, Freetown, tragically lost her life in the incident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred between 11:00 p.m. on 8th February and midnight at the victim’s residence.

The Criminal Investigations Department has taken into custody Goodluck Nicol, a 16-year-old reported to be the adopted son of the deceased and resident at the same address. According to the Police, the suspect has allegedly confessed to striking Kamanda on the head with a pestle. He is currently assisting authorities with further investigations.

The Sierra Leone Police clarified that the incident is not linked to a robbery, contrary to earlier speculations circulating in some quarters.

The matter remains under active investigation, and authorities have promised to release additional details as the inquiry progresses.

The SLP extended its deepest condolences to Kamanda’s family, colleagues, and loved ones, and urged members of the public to remain calm. Citizens are encouraged to support the Police by providing any information that may assist with the investigation at the nearest Police station.
