The Minister of Internal Affairs, AIG Rtd. Morie Lengor Esq., hosted the Deputy High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Madam Kathleen Reid, and her team to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation on migration and security issues.

The meeting focused on building sustainable partnerships on migration and return processes, and explored areas of potential cooperation in the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on migration.

During the engagement, Madam Reid sought comprehensive insights into Sierra Leone’s migration challenges and emphasized the need for collaboration to ensure the safe and dignified return of migrants. She highlighted the increasing complexities of involuntary migration and underscored the UK’s commitment to strengthening migration relationships with Sierra Leone.

Minister Lengor welcomed the initiative, reaffirming his Ministry’s commitment to security and cooperation on migration issues. He highlighted ongoing measures taken with international partners, such as the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to facilitate the safe and dignified return and reintegration of migrants.

The Minister thanked the Deputy High Commissioner and her team for their continued support and emphasized the long-standing relationship between Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the MOU through joint actionable plans aimed at addressing migration challenges.
