The Government of Guinea has issued an official statement regarding the arrest of Sierra Leonean security officers who allegedly entered Guinean territory without authorization.
In Communiqué No. 001/2026 released by the General Staff of the Armed Forces on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, Guinean authorities stated that the incident occurred on Sunday, 22 February 2026, in the district of Koudaya, Sub-Prefecture of Sandénia, Prefecture of Faranah. According to the statement, several dozen armed Sierra Leonean soldiers crossed approximately 1.4 kilometres into Guinean territory, where they reportedly set up a tent and raised their national flag.
The communiqué indicated that Guinean Armed Forces were immediately deployed to the location after receiving an alert. Upon arrival, they confirmed the presence of the Sierra Leonean personnel and arrested sixteen officers, seizing their equipment. The detained officers and confiscated materials were subsequently handed over to the judicial police for further investigation.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Army Corps General Ibrahima Sory Bangoura, commended the Guinean units involved for what he described as their prompt response and professionalism.
The statement also called on Guinea’s Defence and Security Forces to strengthen vigilance and remain on alert to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.
The development adds to ongoing tensions surrounding the border area, with authorities on both sides expected to address the matter through official channels.
