The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) has conducted a massive cleaning exercise at the premises of the Jui Chinese Hospital, located at Sorie Lane in Jui, earlier today.
The intervention follows concerns that sections of the hospital’s compound had been turned into an illegal dumping site by some community members, posing serious environmental and public health risks. The Council described the situation as unfortunate and unacceptable, noting that immediate action was necessary to restore cleanliness and environmental sanity to the area.
Council authorities emphasized that maintaining a clean and healthy environment remains a core responsibility of the local authority. They warned that individuals found dumping waste within or around the hospital’s fence area during or after the cleaning exercise will be legally dealt with in accordance with existing council regulations.
As part of efforts to ensure sustainability, WARDC disclosed that a structured development plan for the site is currently underway, in line with its statutory duties and responsibilities. In the interim, a caretaker will be assigned to administer and monitor the area to prevent further misuse and safeguard the premises from being converted into a dumping ground again.
The Council has called on residents of Jui and its environs to cooperate with local authorities by disposing of waste responsibly and supporting ongoing efforts to maintain environmental standards across the district.
