The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRA) has responded to public concerns over a dangerously deteriorating sidewalk at Lumley Beach, weeks after residents first raised alarms about an imminent collapse.
Concerns were first flagged on April 3 by Trevor Young, who warned that a large portion of the sidewalk had already collapsed and that remaining sections were cracked and on the verge of falling. Young said he and others had repeatedly contacted the SLRA about the hazard.
“This is very dangerous,” Young said in his initial post.
Following continued pressure, the SLRA issued a response on April 5. Chief engineer John Kamara and engineer Melvin Scott confirmed that the area had been inspected, a contractor assigned, and funds disbursed for the repair work.

According to the engineers, repairs are scheduled to begin after the Easter holiday.
Young acknowledged the update and the steps taken by the authority, adding that he and others would continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as work progresses.
