The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has conducted an on-site assessment of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) building at New England Ville following a localized fire incident that affected a small section of the facility on Thursday, 9 April 2026.
Minister Bah was accompanied by the Minister of Local Government, Tamba Lamina, and was guided through the affected areas by SLBC’s Director General, Josephine Kamara.
Preliminary findings from the assessment confirmed that the fire was contained to a section of the top floor of the building. The office of the Deputy Director General was reported to be the most affected, with damage recorded to office equipment.
According to the Ministry of Information, the fire also extended to part of the Engineering Department but was successfully contained before it could spread to critical broadcasting infrastructure.
During the visit, SLBC management disclosed that they are awaiting an official report from the National Fire Force and disaster management authorities to determine the cause of the incident and provide a comprehensive assessment of the damage.
Further technical evaluations are also expected to be carried out to ascertain the safety and structural integrity of the building.
