A public appeal has been made to His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, urging him to exercise his constitutional powers to grant clemency to media personality and entrepreneur Zainab Sheriff.
The appeal, submitted by Dr. Alhaji K. Tarawally, a business man, senior citizen and supporter of President Bio, calls for mercy on humanitarian grounds following Sheriff’s recent conviction and four-year prison sentence.
Dr. Tarawally acknowledged that Sheriff’s actions were inappropriate, noting that her statements were made in a moment of heightened emotion. However, he emphasized that the appeal is not intended to challenge the legal process, but rather to seek compassion and leniency.
He described Sheriff as a significant contributor to Sierra Leone’s creative industry, highlighting her involvement in girl empowerment initiatives, television platforms, and a modeling agency that has provided opportunities for young people across the country.
The appeal also underscores Sheriff’s status as a first-time offender and a mother, stressing the emotional and social impact of her incarceration on her family. According to Dr. Tarawally, the experience has been deeply distressing for her, but may serve as a turning point toward personal growth and responsible citizenship.
Linking the request to the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on April 27, 2026, the appeal frames the potential pardon as a symbolic act of national unity and compassionate leadership.
Dr. Tarawally concluded by urging President Bio to demonstrate mercy, describing such a decision as a reflection of fatherly leadership and a commitment to reconciliation and humanity.
The State House has not yet issued an official response to the appeal.

You really have a Godly heart. Mmmm. I don’t know if it was on the other side, he or she could have done the same gesture. God will surely bless you and your families.
No weapons formed against you and your families shall prosper, and every tongue that raise up against you and your families God shall condemned them all, in Jesus mighty name, amen. Peace.
I can say this without fear or favor , that the president has been magnanimous in matters that had involved his presidency and APC. Let go of coup plotters, released criminals in the name of national unity, allowed criminals to go free in destroying things meant for our national growth.
This approach has increased the level of lawlessness, indiscipline and host of many others.
Tough example needs to be set as a deterrent to to would be trouble makers as this will help curb some of these social menace in our nation
It’s left with the president to do otherwise, but the judiciary has played its own part as an independent institution
My brother, let us continue praying for Sierra Leone. God bless you and your families. My heart is bleeding to see lawlessness human creatures walking freely in Sierra Leone supported by liars, lawyers. At least spend 2 to 3 years then pardon be giving. I can say this, maybe someone is very much afraid of the others that is why. This is very shameful. Please let Sierra Leone dismantle all the laws, close down courts houses. Set free all those in jail right now, pandeba road and others in the country. Close down. So people can easily breath fine. Wan hala gor don.
