The Chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, on Thursday conducted an inspection of the Queen Elizabeth II Quay to assess ongoing operations and transformation efforts at Sierra Leone’s main seaport.
The visit, led by the Director General of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), Yankuba Askia Bio, took the Committee Chair through key operational areas of the port. During the tour, Hon. Tawa Conteh engaged port officials, concessionaires, and other stakeholders on performance and service delivery.
Officials briefed the delegation on a range of ongoing infrastructure upgrades, including berth rehabilitation works, as well as strategic interventions aimed at improving vessel turnaround time and enhancing cargo handling efficiency.
Speaking at the end of the inspection, Hon. Tawa Conteh expressed satisfaction with what he described as “remarkable progress” made by the Authority. He commended the SLPHA for its efforts to transform the port into a more efficient and competitive gateway for trade.
He further underscored the critical role of the Queen Elizabeth II Quay in driving economic growth and facilitating international commerce, noting that sustained improvements at the port are vital to strengthening Sierra Leone’s trade capacity and global competitiveness.
