Fourah Bay College (FBC), University of Sierra Leone, is set to hold a turning of the sod ceremony for the construction of a new Muslim Jamaat Masjid, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s ongoing infrastructural and spiritual development.

According to an official notice issued by the College, the ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, 17th May 2026, at 10:00 a.m., and will take place at the old site of the demolished mosque within the FBC campus.

The proposed ultra-modern mosque is designed to reflect the prestige and growth of the institution as it advances into its second century. It is also expected to provide improved worship facilities for the increasing number of Muslim students, staff, faculty members, alumni, and well-wishers within the college community.

The management of Fourah Bay College, which forms part of the University of Sierra Leone system, has extended an invitation to all Muslim members of the community both within and outside the institution to attend and participate in the landmark event.

The ceremony is expected to bring together key stakeholders, including students, academic staff, alumni, and supporters of the institution, in support of what has been described as an important development initiative for the historic college.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts by Fourah Bay College to enhance campus infrastructure and strengthen its role as a center of academic excellence and inclusive community development.
