The Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Chernor Mamoud Jalloh, has called on media practitioners across Sierra Leone to support the Trust’s efforts to improve service delivery, promote public awareness and strengthen compliance with social security regulations.

Mr Jalloh made the appeal during a press cocktail reception held at Country Lodge in Freetown on October 21, 2026, aimed at strengthening relations between NASSIT and the media and fostering greater collaboration in communicating the Trust’s work to the public.

Addressing journalists at the event, the Director General said he had long looked forward to an opportunity to engage media practitioners directly since assuming office, describing the gathering as an important platform to explain NASSIT’s operations and build a stronger working relationship with the press.

“I have always longed for such an opportunity since I assumed office to interact with the media face-to-face,” he said.

Mr Jalloh explained that NASSIT is responsible for administering Sierra Leone’s National Pension Scheme, noting that he had introduced strategic initiatives and operational reforms aimed at modernising processes, improving workplace efficiency and raising service standards for contributors and pensioners.

He emphasised that the media has a critical role to play in educating the public about the Scheme, explaining its benefits and ensuring that contributors and pensioners are better informed about their rights and obligations.

The Director General said effective communication and public understanding were essential to strengthening confidence in the Trust and improving the delivery of its services.

Beyond public education, Mr Jalloh urged journalists to help protect NASSIT’s assets by raising awareness about the legal and financial consequences of encroaching on properties owned by the Trust. He stressed that safeguarding the institution’s assets requires collective responsibility and cooperation from the public.

Mr Jalloh also expressed appreciation to President Julius Maada Bio for the confidence and support extended to him, reaffirming his commitment to advancing NASSIT’s mandate and fulfilling its obligations to contributors and pensioners.

He further commended the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, for partnering with NASSIT to organise the engagement with media practitioners.

Concluding his remarks, the Director General called on journalists to promote compliance with statutory social security requirements across all sectors, including within media organisations. He noted that compliance is a shared responsibility that supports the effective administration of the pension scheme and helps protect the long-term interests of its members.

The engagement provided an opportunity for NASSIT and media practitioners to strengthen cooperation, with the Trust seeking to improve public understanding of its operations and ensure that information about its services, reforms and obligations reaches a wider audience.
