Sierra Leone has agreed to accept hundreds of West African migrants deported from the United States as part of a new third-country arrangement, Foreign Minister Timothy Musa Kabba has announced.
According to the Minister, the first group of deportees is expected to arrive in Sierra Leone on May 20 aboard a flight carrying 25 individuals. The deportees are reported to include nationals from Senegal, Ghana, Guinea, and Nigeria.
The arrangement forms part of a broader policy by the government of the United States aimed at accelerating deportation processes through agreements with third countries willing to receive returned migrants.
Authorities have not yet disclosed further operational details, including reception procedures or the long-term framework guiding the agreement.
