A wave of grief has swept through family members, friends, and members of the Muslim community following the death of Mariama Bangoura during the ongoing Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

According to reports, Mariama Bangoura traveled to the holy city together with her husband to fulfill the sacred Islamic obligation of Hajj, a spiritual journey undertaken by millions of Muslims from around the world each year. The pilgrimage, regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam, is considered one of the most important acts of worship in the Muslim faith.

Sources close to the family disclosed that Mariama reportedly suffered a heart attack while in Mecca. Despite efforts to assist her, she sadly passed away during the pilgrimage activities.

In line with Islamic tradition, she was buried the same day on Sunday in the holy land. Islamic teachings encourage the quick burial of the deceased, especially during Hajj, where many pilgrims consider being laid to rest in Mecca a deeply spiritual and honorable moment.

The heartbreaking news has triggered emotional reactions across social media, with many Sierra Leoneans expressing shock, sadness, and prayers for the deceased and her family.

Several people described Mariama as a devoted Muslim woman who was excited about completing the pilgrimage alongside her husband.
