Her Worship the Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE, on Monday received His Excellency Zhao Yong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Sierra Leone, during a courtesy visit to her office.
The engagement, described as productive and forward-looking, focused on exploring strategic pathways to deepen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between China and Sierra Leone at the subnational level.
Discussions between the two leaders centred on strengthening partnerships to support urban development, service delivery, and local governance initiatives in Freetown. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to fostering mutually beneficial collaboration and expanding opportunities for engagement beyond national frameworks.
The meeting underscores the growing importance of city-level diplomacy in advancing international cooperation and development partnerships.
