Popular Banker and community advocate wins landslide 59-29 vote at SLMB Secondary School, Mile 91, pledges humility and service for a two-year term.

Sorie Alaska Bangura was on Saturday, 30th May 2026, elected President of the Yoni Academic Friends of the 90s after polling 59 votes to defeat incumbent Mohamed Yankson Sankoh who secured 29 votes. The peaceful election, held at SLMB Secondary School in Mile 91, marked a new chapter for the association of Yoni sons and daughters who attended school together in the 1990s.

Members described the process as transparent and orderly, noting that the result reflected widespread confidence in Bangura’s leadership and commitment to community development.

The Yoni Academic Friends of the 90s was formed to unify former classmates, support education initiatives, and advance the welfare of members. Bangura, a banker and entrepreneur, has been recognized for his contributions to youth mentorship and education in the chiefdom.

Under the association’s constitution, he will serve a two-year term. In his acceptance speech, Bangura thanked members for their trust and vowed to lead with humility, transparency, and dedication to the collective progress of Yoni.
