The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) has begun the second phase of its Advanced Capacity Building Training Programme, targeting staff involved in policy, planning, monitoring, and research across government institutions.
The training, which commenced on 23 June 2026, is being coordinated by MoPED’s Planning, Policy and Research Department. According to the ministry, Phase 2 focuses on strengthening participants’ ability to translate data, research findings, and evaluations into policy papers, briefs, concept notes, and project proposals. The programme is themed “Turning Evidence into Decisions.”
Participants include Planning Officers, Senior Planning Officers, Policy Analysts, Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, Programme Managers, and Research Officers. The curriculum involves guided drafting sessions, peer reviews, writing clinics, and exercises on the responsible use of AI tools for drafting.
MoPED stated that Phase 1 of the programme enhanced participants’ competencies in Excel, Artificial Intelligence, and STATA for data management, research, and statistical analysis. Phase 2 shifts attention to the critical task of converting evidence into decision-ready documents aligned with national development priorities.
The training forms part of MoPED’s broader commitment to strengthening policy analysis, planning, and evidence-based decision-making across government institutions, ensuring that technical evidence is effectively translated into actions that deliver sustainable development outcomes for Sierra Leone.
