The Director General of the National Water Resources Management Agency (NWRMA), Ing. Pierre Palmer, has conducted an extensive familiarisation tour of major raw water users across the Northern, North-Western and Eastern Regions.

The purpose of the visit is to strengthen operational oversight and deepen collaboration with raw water users.

The tour brought the Agency’s leadership face-to-face with mining operators, borehole drillers and community water managers to assess on-site operations, identify risks and agree on next steps for sustainable water use.

Furthermore, the tour aimed to observe physical operations, verify compliance with water-use permits, and develop collaborative solutions where competing demands or infrastructure gaps exist. The Director General emphasised the need for practical, locally informed interventions that protect water resources while supporting economic activity and community livelihoods.

“The water resources of Sierra Leone are under major threat that requires strong collaboration at all levels, including water users. The primary mandate of the Agency is to regulate human interaction with the resources to ensure sustainability,” he emphasised.
