The Regional Police Commander East, ACP Joe Kamanda Bongay, has reaffirmed the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to protecting lives and property while strengthening security across the Eastern Region during his first official radio appearance since assuming office.
Speaking on Starline Radio on Tuesday, 1 July 2026, ACP Bongay addressed residents on the region’s security situation and outlined the operational strategies being implemented to tackle crime and improve public safety.
He discussed a range of security concerns affecting the region, including recent crime trends, the police response to major security incidents and civil unrest, armed robbery, sexual and gender-based violence, and the growing problem of drug and substance abuse. He said the Sierra Leone Police continues to intensify efforts to address these challenges through targeted operations and enhanced law enforcement measures.
ACP Bongay stressed that effective policing depends on strong collaboration between the police and the public. He urged residents to provide timely and credible information that would assist the police in preventing crime and apprehending offenders, noting that maintaining security is a shared responsibility.
He also assured the public that the Sierra Leone Police remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and effective service delivery. According to the Regional Commander, the Force will continue working diligently to maintain peace, uphold law and order, and ensure the safety of communities throughout the Eastern Region.
The radio engagement formed part of the Regional Command’s efforts to strengthen public confidence, improve community engagement, and promote greater cooperation between the police and residents in addressing security challenges.
