Dr. Leonard Omarr Bangura, a Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Sierra Leone, has called on the Government of Sierra Leone to prioritise the construction of the proposed Lungi Bridge, describing it as a critical infrastructure project that will maximise the benefits of the newly commissioned Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre.
According to Dr. Bangura, the establishment of the conference centre presents a timely opportunity for the government to improve connectivity between Freetown and Lungi, making the facility more accessible and attractive for regional and international events.
He noted that the bridge would not only enhance access to the conference centre but also stimulate economic growth and encourage further development in the Lungi area.
“If the bridge is built and ministries establish their respective offices there, it will help. If more people are here, then the conference centre will achieve its intended impact,” Dr. Bangura said.
He stressed that improved infrastructure and the decentralisation of government institutions would increase activity in Lungi, boost investment, and ensure the conference centre fulfills its role as a major hub for conferences, diplomacy, and international engagement.
