Former Minister of Youth Affairs, Mohamed Orman Bangura has been appointed Deputy Director General (Administration and Finance) of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust, marking his return to public service.
The appointment was announced by President Julius Maada Bio in a public notice issued by State House on 21 July 2026, subject to parliamentary approval where applicable.
Bangura will serve alongside newly appointed Director General Chernor Mamoud Jalloh under the leadership of the newly constituted Board of Trustees chaired by Jenneh Jabati.
Bangura previously served as Minister of Youth Affairs from May 2018 until his dismissal in March 2025. During his nearly seven-year tenure, he oversaw the operationalisation of the National Youth Service, which provided internships and job opportunities for graduates; launched the National Youth Policy; supported 8,000 youth-led businesses through various projects; and empowered over 5,000 youth in technology.
The former minister also improved the Ministry’s performance rating from “high risk” to consistently “low risk” by development partners since 2019 and pioneered the Youth Empowerment Fund.
At NASSIT, Bangura will be responsible for supporting the management of the Trust’s administrative and financial operations. The Trust administers pensions and social security benefits for workers across Sierra Leone.
Bangura, born on 24 December 1985 in Magburaka, Tonkolili District, holds a degree in Accounting and Finance from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
