The Yeajorma Event Planning Hub, a beneficiary of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is playing a key role in empowering young people in Freetown by providing practical skills training and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Located in the Grafton community, the hub has become a centre of creativity and skills development, offering training in areas including event decoration, cake making, tailoring, and other vocational trades aimed at helping youths build sustainable livelihoods.
The initiative was founded by young entrepreneur John Francis Abdulai Choko, who established the business through personal efforts before receiving support from UNDP. With the assistance, Yeajorma has expanded its operations and grown into a platform that equips young people with practical skills and encourages self-reliance.
Since its establishment, the hub has implemented community-focused programmes through training and mentorship, helping beneficiaries acquire employable skills while promoting innovation and entrepreneurship among Sierra Leone’s youth.
According to the leadership of Yeajorma Event Planning Hub, the organisation is seeking partnerships with development agencies, institutions, and stakeholders interested in strengthening technical and vocational education in Sierra Leone.
The organisation believes that strategic partnerships will enhance its capacity, increase training opportunities, and extend its impact to more young people, particularly in Grafton and surrounding communities where many youths are seeking pathways to economic independence.
Beneficiaries and community members have commended the hub for creating opportunities that have enabled young people to develop skills, start businesses, and improve their livelihoods.
As Sierra Leone continues to focus on youth empowerment and job creation, initiatives such as Yeajorma Event Planning Hub are contributing to national development by promoting vocational training, entrepreneurship, and financial independence among young people.
