For the first time in its history, Kowa Chiefdom has recorded a major milestone in education following the approval of a new Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) centre by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE).
The newly established centre, located at Kowa Junior Secondary School in Njama Town, the headquarters of Kowa Chiefdom, has allowed candidates to sit their examinations within the chiefdom for the first time.
Officials say the development will improve access to public examinations and reduce the difficulties previously faced by pupils who had to travel outside the chiefdom to write their exams.
Speaking to the community, Chiefdom Youth Leader James said two schools are presenting candidates at the centre: Kowa Junior Secondary School in Njama and Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood (S.L.M.B.) Junior Secondary School in Mofombo.
He disclosed that a total of 90 candidates from the two schools are sitting this year’s BECE at the newly approved examination centre.
Stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening education and expanding access to learning opportunities for children in Kowa Chiefdom.
Residents also commended the MBSSE for approving the centre and called for continued efforts to create more opportunities for learners across the chiefdom.
