Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah has ordered the detention of one of the sureties in the fraud-related case involving Admire Bio-Jalloh and her husband, Dauda Jalloh, after the two accused persons failed to appear in court for the second time.

The order was made after State Counsel Isaac Sesay urged the court to investigate the continued absence of the defendants, noting that the complainant had been present throughout the proceedings.

Defence Counsel S.S. Kai told the court that Admire Bio-Jalloh was still mourning and experiencing psychological trauma, which affected her ability to attend the hearing. He appealed to the court for leniency, assuring that both defendants would appear on the next adjourned date.

However, the prosecution objected to the request, describing the absence of the accused persons as disrespectful to the court. State Counsel Sesay argued that the matter involves a criminal offence and requires the personal attendance of both defendants.

He further informed the court that the defence was expected to appear with four sureties two for each defendant but only three sureties were present. He called for a bench warrant to be issued, stressing that the seriousness of the case must be respected regardless of the status of those involved.

“The sanctity of the court must be protected,” Sesay argued, adding that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.

In response, Defence Counsel Kai explained that the absent surety was unwell and should not be forced to attend court while sick.

Magistrate Jah, however, warned the defence that the case was serious and that both accused persons must appear in court at all times. He cautioned that the court would not tolerate similar conduct in future.

The matter has been adjourned to July 30, 2026.
