Sierra Leone’s Parliament has established an Ad Hoc Committee to oversee the work of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) in line with Recommendation 20 of the Tripartite Committee Report, with Opposition Leader Hon. Abdul Kargbo appointed as its chairman.
The announcement was made by the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, during the parliamentary sitting on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
Hon. Kargbo’s appointment fulfils the provision under Recommendation 20 of the Tripartite Committee Report, which requires that the committee be chaired by a Member of Parliament from the Opposition.
The Ad Hoc Committee is mandated to provide parliamentary oversight of Sierra Leone’s electoral management bodies, with the objective of promoting accountability, transparency, and public confidence in the country’s democratic and electoral processes.
The establishment of the committee marks another milestone in the implementation of the Tripartite Committee recommendations, which are aimed at strengthening electoral governance and reinforcing democratic institutions in Sierra Leone.
