Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice, His Lordship Honourable Justice Komba Kamanda, has been honoured with a prestigious plaque for his outstanding leadership and contribution to maritime jurisprudence during the 18th International Maritime Seminar for Judges held at Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja, Nigeria, on 23 July 2026.
The seminar, organised by the Judiciary of Nigeria and the Nigeria Shippers’ Council, brought together judges, legal scholars and policymakers from several countries, including Sierra Leone, Kenya, Ghana, The Gambia and Hong Kong, to discuss emerging issues and developments in Admiralty and Maritime Law.
Chief Justice Kamanda was also selected to Chair and Moderate the second technical session of the seminar, alongside Kenya’s Chief Justice, Justice Martha K. Koome, reflecting his growing international recognition.
In his remarks, he thanked the organisers for the invitation and reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to collaborating with other judiciaries to strengthen maritime law, judicial excellence and the rule of law.
The Chief Justice attended the seminar with Honourable Justice F.B. Alhadi and Honourable Justice Mamie of Sierra Leone’s Admiralty and Fast Track Commercial Court, underscoring the Judiciary’s commitment to enhancing judicial capacity and adopting international best practices in maritime and commercial justice.
The recognition highlights Sierra Leone’s increasing influence in international judicial forums and the Judiciary’s commitment to advancing legal jurisprudence.
