Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema arrived at Freetown International Airport in Lungi on Sunday to begin a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation between Sierra Leone and Gabon.
President Oligui Nguema and his delegation were received at the airport by Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohammed Juldeh Jalloh, ahead of a series of official engagements scheduled to run through Tuesday, August 4.
The visit comes at the invitation of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and marks President Oligui Nguema’s first official trip to Sierra Leone since his constitutional election as President of Gabon on May 3, 2025, according to the Government of Sierra Leone.
Government officials have described the visit as an opportunity to deepen bilateral ties and promote collaboration in key sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, tourism, and governance.
Ahead of the President’s arrival, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education outlined the objectives of the visit during a special press conference held Friday at the Miatta Civic Centre in Freetown.
Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education Hon. Bockarie Abdel-Aziz Bawoh said the visit reflects the growing partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to peace, democratic governance, economic cooperation, and sustainable development.
During his stay, President Oligui Nguema is expected to hold bilateral discussions with senior government officials, engage members of the private sector, and tour selected tourism sites as part of efforts to highlight Sierra Leone’s investment potential.
“This visit will create new opportunities for trade and investment between our two countries. It is expected to encourage direct foreign investment into Sierra Leone while strengthening confidence among Sierra Leoneans living and doing business in the Republic of Gabon,” the Deputy Minister stated.
