First Lady Fatima Maada Bio has underscored the importance of African unity, sisterhood, and cooperation during a state banquet held in honour of the President of Gabon, His Excellency General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, and the First Lady of Gabon, Her Excellency Mrs Zita Oligui Nguema.
The First Lady made the remarks on Monday evening as she joined her husband, President Julius Maada Bio, at Chapter One Restaurant in Freetown to host the visiting dignitaries as part of their official visit to Sierra Leone.
Describing the occasion as a privilege, Mrs Bio said the event was an opportunity to celebrate the enduring friendship and cooperation between Sierra Leone and Gabon.
In her remarks, she highlighted the strength of African sisterhood and emphasised the shared commitment of both nations to peace, development, and prosperity.
“As African women, we must continue to stand together, support one another, and work collectively towards building a more peaceful and prosperous continent,” she noted.
Mrs Bio, who also serves as President of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), reaffirmed the resilience of African women and called for increased unity and collaboration across the continent.
She further expressed optimism that the partnership between Sierra Leone and Gabon will continue to grow, delivering meaningful benefits for the people of both countries.
