Sierra Leone police have handed over a Liberian national, Augustine Lendeh, accused of murder, to authorities in Liberia, marking another step in cross-border efforts to combat serious crimes.
Lendeh was detained on Monday, Aug. 3, after police intelligence reportedly connected him to the death of his 19-year-old girlfriend, Dearest Paye, in Monrovia, Liberia. Preliminary investigations indicated that the incident allegedly followed a domestic dispute before the suspect crossed into Sierra Leone.
The handover was conducted through established security cooperation arrangements between Sierra Leone and Liberia, allowing Liberian authorities to continue investigations and legal proceedings.
ACP Joe Kamanda Bongay, Regional Police Commander East, received the Liberian delegation on behalf of the Inspector General of Police and emphasised the SLP’s commitment to maintaining strong security partnerships with neighbouring countries.
Superintendent Cary G. Karzon, Team Leader of the Liberia National Police’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Monrovia, commended Sierra Leonean authorities for their prompt response and professionalism in handling the matter.
Karzon said the successful transfer demonstrated the close working relationship between the two countries’ law enforcement agencies in addressing cross-border crimes and promoting justice and stability.
