Corruption Watch Sierra Leone (CWSL) has reported that its officials were allegedly assaulted by youths around the Paramount Chief of Diang Chiefdom while carrying out an official public sensitisation campaign on corruption and illegal mining in Koinadugu District.
According to an incident report submitted to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the organisation, the incident occurred on Wednesday, 6 August 2026, during a visit by the National Coordinator, Alhaji Abu Koroma, and a senior staff member to the residence of Paramount Chief Sheku Magba Koroma III.
CWSL said the purpose of the visit was to formally inform the Paramount Chief about an ongoing public awareness campaign on corruption and illegal mining in Diang Chiefdom and to present an official letter of notification.
The organisation alleged that during the introduction, the Paramount Chief became visibly displeased with the message being delivered and interrupted the presentation. According to the report, Alhaji Abu Koroma attempted to complete his remarks and sought clarification on why the campaign was not being welcomed.
CWSL further alleged that the situation escalated when the Paramount Chief instructed youths around him to attack Mr Koroma. The organisation said its National Coordinator was assaulted during the confrontation.
The report also stated that the team’s official motorcycle was seized while the officers were on duty. In addition, CWSL alleged that threatening remarks were made during the incident, including statements suggesting that the Chief possessed a pistol and had the financial means to act without restraint.
Following the alleged assault, the matter was reported to the Kabala Police Station for investigation. Mr Koroma later received medical treatment at the Kabala Government Hospital, according to the organisation.
Corruption Watch Sierra Leone said it has also notified the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and other relevant stakeholders about the incident.
The organisation has called for a full police investigation into the alleged assault, intimidation and seizure of its property, and has appealed for protection for its staff to continue what it described as lawful public education activities on corruption and illegal mining in Diang Chiefdom.
As of the time of publication, there had been no official response from Paramount Chief Sheku Magba Koroma III regarding the allegations contained in the report.
