President Julius Maada Bio has declared the coming year a decisive period of “action and accelerated delivery,” setting out an ambitious agenda focused on tangible improvements in the lives of Sierra Leoneans.
Addressing Parliament during the State Opening of the Fourth Session of the Sixth Parliament, the President underscored that government performance will be judged not by policy announcements but by visible results on the ground.
He acknowledged that despite progress in key sectors, significant challenges persist, including rising living costs, youth unemployment, and limited access to essential services. According to him, these realities demand a sharper focus on execution and accountability across all arms of government.
President Bio outlined priority areas for delivery before the next State Opening of Parliament, including increased food production, expansion of electricity and clean water services, completion of critical road and bridge projects, and improvements in healthcare and education systems.
The agenda also places strong emphasis on creating opportunities for young people and women through skills development, employment pathways, and enterprise support, alongside broader efforts to strengthen public service delivery.
To ensure results, the President announced that every Ministry, Department, and Agency will be subject to clear and measurable performance targets. Progress will be regularly reviewed, with updates made public, while delays and failures will be addressed through corrective measures.
He stressed that transparency, discipline, and value for money will be central to this approach, signalling a shift toward a more results-driven governance framework.
President Bio concluded that the success of this “Year of Action” will ultimately be determined by whether citizens experience real improvements in their daily lives, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to delivery, accountability, and inclusive development.
