A community-led operation has led to the arrest of a suspect found in possession of a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics in Mamamah Village.
Abubakar Kamara, locally known by the alias “Jaffah,” was apprehended during a targeted local sweep after community members alerted law enforcement to illicit drug activity in the area.
The operation yielded a seizure of 287 wraps of a substance suspected to be Kush, a high-potency synthetic drug that has posed growing public safety and health challenges across the country.
Following the apprehension, local authorities seized the drugs and formally took Kamara into custody. The confiscated wraps have been logged as evidence.
The Sierra Leone Police commended the residents of Mamamah Village for taking an active, organised role in safeguarding their neighborhood. Police officials stressed that grassroots cooperation remains critical to dismantling drug distribution networks at all levels.
Police confirmed that active investigations into the suspect’s local distribution networks and potential accomplices remain ongoing. Further charges are expected to be filed upon the completion of the preliminary investigation.
Kush is currently one of the most pervasive drugs in Sierra Leone with thousands of youth falling victims to it. The drugs is synthetic -produced with a mixture of formalin, cannabis, tramadol, fentanyl and formaldehyde. There are some allegations that some producers use crushed human bones.
