The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) president, Babadi Kamara, has announced an increase in the seed money allocated to Premier League clubs from le,200,000 to le,225,000 each for the 2026/27 season, representing a 12.5% increase.
He made this announcement while speaking at the Leone Rock Premier League Awards Night at Bintumani Hotel on Friday, 7th August 2026.
President Babadi said the increase comes as the Premier League is set to operate with 16 clubs next season, following the reduction of participating teams from 18 to 16.
He described the just-concluded Premier League season, under the leadership of the Premier League Board Chairman Osman Tommy, as one of the best in recent history, citing the application of the FIFA Connect system and improved administrative and disciplinary standards.
The SLFA boss disclosed that referees’ fees had also been increased from NLe 700 to NLe 2,000 since his administration assumed office one year ago.
He further stated that the SLFA had, for the first time, organised all major categories of domestic football, including the Men’s and Women’s Premier Leagues, FA Cup, Division One and Division Two competitions.
Furthermore, President Babadi Kamara said his administration had taken disciplinary action against a good number of match officials, stressing that the SLFA would not compromise the integrity of its competitions or favour any club. “No one is cheating anyone, at least not under my administration,” he said.
President Kamara congratulated Bo Rangers for winning the Premier League and Star Sport Academy for finishing as runner-up, while encouraging relegated clubs to return stronger and urging promoted clubs to prepare adequately for top-flight football.
President Babadi Kamara described Leone Stars as the “heartbeat of every Sierra Leonean” and called for collective national support ahead of the upcoming AFCON qualifiers in September.
The SLFA President also announced plans to construct additional football facilities next year, with Lungi identified as one of the beneficiaries of the planned artificial-turf projects.
Finally, he expressed appreciation to Leone Rock Metal Group, the Government of Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Finance, football fans and SLFA staff for their continued support of football development in the country.
