A woman has reportedly died in Tongo after receiving an injection allegedly administered by a man who police say was not authorised to provide medical treatment.
Fatmata M. Ngevao reportedly died on Monday, August 10, 2026, shortly after Musa Ngevao administered an injection to her at the Marlin Health Centre.
The incident was brought to the attention of police by the victim’s husband, Ibrahim Ngevao, who reported that his wife had received the injection before her sudden death.
Following the report, Musa Ngevao was arrested at the health facility by a police team led by Crime Officer D/ASP John Fayia Focko.
Police said their investigation found that the suspect was not a trained or licensed medical practitioner. Investigators also allege that he had been giving injections and administering drugs to members of the public despite lacking the professional qualifications and authority required to do so.
One of the medical items under investigation is an injection identified as “Peniron,” which police said was administered into the deceased’s left hand shortly before her death. Medical equipment and other substances were also recovered as investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation has also established that Musa Ngevao is the son of a qualified medical professional employed by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Hanga. Police said the family connection did not give him the authority to practise medicine or administer treatment to patients.
The circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain under investigation, with authorities examining the medical materials recovered from the scene and other evidence gathered during the inquiry.
Musa Ngevao remains in custody at Tongo Police Station as the Criminal Investigation Department continues its investigation into the death of Fatmata M. Ngevao.
