The Turkish Government, through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TiKA), has donated 10 motorbikes to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to strengthen police mobility, operational efficiency and response to security challenges.
The motorbikes were presented on Wednesday to Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu, who expressed appreciation to the Turkish Government and TiKA for their continued support to the SLP.
IGP Sellu said the donation would enhance the ability of police officers to respond quickly to security incidents and improve community policing, particularly in areas where rapid movement is essential. He assured the Turkish Government that the motorbikes would be used for their intended purpose.
The Police Chief also highlighted Turkey’s previous support to the SLP, recalling that following his initial meeting with Turkish Ambassador Yusuf Bukar Rende, TiKA facilitated a training programme for Sierra Leonean police personnel.
Ambassador Rende reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Sierra Leone, describing the donation as a practical demonstration of Turkey’s support for the country’s security sector.
He said the partnership between the two countries is based on mutual respect and expressed Turkey’s willingness to explore further areas of cooperation that could benefit both nations.
The latest donation adds to Turkey’s ongoing assistance to the Sierra Leone Police through training and institutional development initiatives. The SLP is expected to deploy the motorbikes to improve mobility, rapid response and overall service delivery as it continues efforts to strengthen its operational capacity.
