The National Protected Area Authority (NPAA) has completed a comprehensive threat assessment ahead of a planned demolition exercise at Aberdeen Creek in Freetown, as the Authority prepares to enforce protected-area regulations in the community.
The assessment, led by NPAA Deputy Executive Director Mr Dwight Z.K. Sheriff in collaboration with the Operational Commander of the Aberdeen Police Division, focused on critical areas required for the successful execution of the operation.
Key areas assessed included potential security threats, boundary demarcation, logistics, and other operational requirements. As part of the security preparations, the police also assessed the number of officers and other security personnel required to provide adequate support during the demolition exercise.
According to the NPAA, timely action is considered essential, particularly amid growing negative perceptions of the Authority. The exercise is therefore expected to demonstrate the Authority’s commitment to enforcing protected-area regulations in a professional, coordinated and orderly manner.
The Authority has also undertaken community engagement on two occasions, providing an opportunity to inform affected residents about the planned exercise and enhance preparedness ahead of the operation.
With the threat assessment, security planning and other preparations now underway, the NPAA says the Aberdeen Creek demolition exercise is expected to take place anytime soon.
