Maforki Chiefdom has validated a 10-year development plan, becoming the first chiefdom to complete a development blueprint under Sierra Leone’s pilot programme for formal chiefdom-level planning.

Validated on Aug. 26 and endorsed by Paramount Chief Bai Forki-Fainka II, the plan was developed through consultations, technical reviews and focus group discussions involving representatives from all 27 sectors. It prioritises agriculture and livelihoods, education, healthcare, clean water, youth and women’s development, skills training and economic opportunities.

The process was led by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs (MLGCA) and the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources (MoMMR). Maforki and neighbouring Marampa Chiefdom were selected as pilot sites because they benefit from the Chiefdom Development Fund established under the Mines and Minerals Development Act, 2023.

Officials stressed the importance of community ownership, inclusive participation, effective monitoring and accountability during implementation. The plan is aligned with the Medium-Term National Development Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the principle of “Leave No One Behind.”
