The Sierra Leone Association of Communications and Public Relations Professionals (SLACPRP), led by Interim President Sallieu Sesay, has engaged the Independent Media Commission (IMC) on issues affecting the country’s communications, media and advertising landscape.
The engagement was held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, with the IMC Chairman, Mr. Joseph Egbenda Kapuwa, Esq., and Executive Secretary, Mr. Khalil Kallon.
The meeting formed part of SLACPRP’s national stakeholder engagement initiative and focused on identifying areas of collaboration while promoting professionalism, ethical practice and responsible communication.

Key issues discussed included challenges within Sierra Leone’s advertising sector, ethical advertising, misleading claims and political advertising, as well as advertising standards across traditional and digital media platforms.
The two sides also discussed the relationship between advertisers, advertising agencies, public relations practitioners and media houses, alongside gaps and opportunities for strengthening existing advertising guidelines.

SLACPRP also highlighted its role in contributing to national discussions on ethical and responsible communication and acknowledged the IMC’s contribution to promoting professionalism within Sierra Leone’s media sector through its Code of Practice.
In response, the IMC Chairman welcomed the establishment of SLACPRP and highlighted ongoing efforts by the Commission, in collaboration with other national institutions, to review and introduce regulations addressing media practice, advertising and the rapidly evolving online communications environment.

SLACPRP expressed its commitment to working with the IMC and other stakeholders to strengthen industry standards and promote a more professional, ethical, responsible and resilient communications ecosystem in Sierra Leone.
