Government Moves to Address School Subsidies, But Teachers Told Not to Expect Everything

The Minister of Finance, Karefa Kargbo, has stated that while the government is committed to improving the welfare of teachers, it cannot fully meet all of their demands at this time. However, he assured that the government will prioritize and address the most critical issues facing the education sector.

Speaking on the ongoing negotiations with teacher unions, Minister Kargbo confirmed that the processing of school subsidies officially begins today, with funds expected to reflect in school accounts by tomorrow, September 8. He emphasized that the government continues to manage a significant volume of subsidies to ensure schools remain operational.

“We cannot meet every single demand at once, but we are committed to addressing the most urgent issues. The disbursement of school subsidies is a top priority, and we are ensuring that funds reach schools as quickly as possible,” Minister Kargbo stated.

The Minister’s comments come amidst heightened pressure from teachers across the country who have called for improved working conditions, better pay, and the timely provision of resources.
