Marampa Mines Limited says it will provide financial assistance, compensation and other benefits to the family of employee Moses Simbo, who died in a workplace accident in August.
The company made the commitment during a meeting with a delegation from the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security led by Ing. Osman Conteh, which visited the company’s facility in Lunsar on Tuesday.
Simbo, a Heavy Mobile Equipment mechanic at Marampa Mines, sustained fatal injuries while involved in towing a disabled articulated dump truck to the workshop, according to the company’s preliminary findings.
The company said the truck unexpectedly moved forward after its drive shaft was disconnected, trapping Simbo beneath one of its wheels.
Marampa Mines said it has put together a support package for Simbo’s family that includes immediate financial assistance and other provisions.
The company also said the deceased’s family is entitled to compensation and end-of-service benefits. It added that life insurance and accident life insurance benefits, each equivalent to 100% of the worker’s annual salary, are awaiting confirmation.
The Ministry welcomed the company’s commitment to assisting the bereaved family and stressed the need for all obligations arising from the fatal incident to be addressed.
Marampa Mines said its internal investigation has been completed and that corrective and preventive measures are being implemented following the findings.
The company is also awaiting the final police investigation report. Its final incident investigation report is expected to be completed on September 13, 2026.
The Ministry is expected to maintain engagement with Marampa Mines and Simbo’s family to ensure the relevant procedures are followed and that the rights and entitlements of the deceased worker’s dependants are protected.
