Lawyer, human rights activist and social justice advocate Mamoud Bah has questioned comments attributed to Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr David Moinina Sengeh, regarding his monthly income.
In a statement shared on social media, Bah claimed that Sengeh, when asked about his earnings during an interview, said he did not know how much he earns each month.
Bah criticised the response, arguing that as a senior government official whose salary is paid directly into a bank account, he should be aware of the amount he receives.
“You see! That’s deception right there, glaring at us like we’re a bunch of buffoons,” Bah stated. “If he doesn’t realise how much he makes after all these years, he is unfit to be president of this country. He is clearly lying to us.”
Bah also questioned the Chief Minister’s transparency, particularly given his responsibility for overseeing Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
“How can the Chief Minister, who oversees MDAs, not know how much he is paid each month? Why is he withholding information that should be public?” he questioned.
Bah said he had previously held a positive view of Sengeh but described the Chief Minister’s reported remarks on his earnings as disappointing and “below the belt.”
