First Lady Fatima Bio on Sunday, September 13th 2026, joined Aberdeen Veterans for the kick-off ceremony of the Aberdeen Veterans Inter-Community League 2026 at the Aberdeen Community Field in Freetown.

Madam Bio described her participation as an opportunity to relax, connect with communities and inspire the young people of Sierra Leone after her global action to advocate for girls.

“Following my recent advocacy at the United Nations, where Sierra Leone took a historic step in advancing global action to eliminate child, early and forced marriage, I consider moments like this a great opportunity to relax, connect with our communities and inspire the young people of Sierra Leone.”

She stated that sport has a unique power to bring people together, build confidence and create positive spaces for young people. She added that she was delighted to share the celebration of football, community and togetherness with the Aberdeen Veterans and football enthusiasts.

The Aberdeen Veterans Inter-Community League brings together teams from different communities within Aberdeen and surrounding areas, aiming to foster unity, healthy competition, and mentorship for youth through football.

Members of the Aberdeen Veterans, community elders, and football enthusiasts turned out in numbers for the opening ceremony, which featured a match to mark the start of the 2026 league season.
