The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has announced new measures requiring vehicle owners to replace worn-out, damaged, or defaced number plates beginning January 2027.
According to a public notice issued by the Authority, all motor vehicles bearing illegible, defaced, or physically damaged number plates will be required to obtain and display current standard number plates.
The SLRSA said the directive forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen vehicle identification, improve security, and promote uniformity in the issuance and use of vehicle number plates across Sierra Leone.
The Authority also advised motorists requiring replacement plates to obtain them only through official SLRSA-authorised channels.
The initiative is expected to improve vehicle identification and tracking, support road safety measures, and contribute to enhanced public security nationwide.
The SLRSA urged vehicle owners and motorists to comply with the directive as it continues to implement reforms aimed at standardising road safety and transport management across the country.
