The Sierra Leone Police, through the Tankoro Division in Kono District, are continuing investigations into an alleged fraud syndicate linked to QNET operatives, while working with relevant authorities to facilitate the safe and timely repatriation of victims.
Police said 27 victims, mainly nationals of Côte d’Ivoire, Mali and Burkina Faso, are currently under police protection as investigations continue. Twenty-three of the victims, including two suspected operatives, were initially located in Tankoro, while four others are being accommodated under the jurisdiction of the Massingbi Division.
Following consultations with the Office of National Security, the Immigration Department and local authorities, arrangements have been made for the victims to be placed under the care of the Kono Maraka Chief, Mr Lansana, and the Area Chief of Fire Force, pending completion of the necessary procedures for their repatriation.
The two suspected operatives, Yaya Ouattara, also known as Idrissa Kamara, and Mohamed Fofanah, remain in police custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Police said they are also engaging community members to gather additional information that could assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged fraud operation.
The Police have assured that investigations will continue in collaboration with relevant authorities as arrangements are made to ensure the victims’ protection and eventual return to their respective countries.
