Human Carburetor Provides Lifeline Scholarships for 20 Vulnerable Students in Pujehun
In the heart of Pujehun Township, a beacon of hope lit up the local Court Barry as 20 vulnerable school children received crucial financial support through the Patrick Ansu Kaikai Scholarship Scheme.
Known affectionately as the “Human Carburetor,” philanthropist and community advocate Patrick Ansu Kaikai delivered on his commitment to local education by providing NLe 1,200 to each selected beneficiary to help cover essential school costs.
The ceremony brought together eager students, relieved parents, local authorities, media representatives, and community members. The beneficiaries selected last year based on merit represent five key institutions in the area: St. Paul Secondary School, Holy Rosary Secondary School, St. Stephen’s Technical and Vocational Secondary School, Government Secondary School Massam, and Ahmadiyya Secondary School.
Speaking to Radio Wanjei, Scheme Chairman Sheku Soko Tarawally emphasized that the initiative targets young people facing steep financial hurdles, aiming to break down barriers to learning in Pujehun Township. Secretary Abu Bakarr Salam Mustapha added that targeting meritorious, disadvantaged students ensures the aid reaches those who need it most.
Though miles away, Patrick Ansu Kaikai joined the gathering live via WhatsApp video call. Facing the crowd onscreen, Kaikai shared his dedication to keeping children in the classroom and offered direct words of encouragement: “Take your studies seriously and make good use of the assistance provided.”
For parents and guardians in attendance, the relief was palpable. Expressing deep gratitude, many noted that the grants lift significant economic pressure off struggling families and keep their children motivated to stay in school. The beneficiaries echoed these sentiments, thanking Kaikai for believing in their future and pledging to work hard in their academic pursuits.
The event concluded on a high note as each of the 20 pupils was formally presented with their NLe 1,200 award, marking another step forward for education and opportunity in Pujehun District.
