Maada Bio Meets Kenya’s Ruto, Discusses UN Reform and Regional Investment Summit
President Julius Maada Bio says he held talks with Kenyan President William Ruto on Africa’s push for United Nations Security Council reform and other issues of mutual interest.
Bio disclosed the meeting in a Facebook post on Tuesday during this year’s United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to Bio, the discussions covered matters of mutual interest between Sierra Leone and Kenya, as well as ongoing efforts by African countries to advance reforms to the U.N. Security Council.
The meeting comes amid broader African advocacy for changes to the composition and representation of the Security Council, including efforts to secure greater representation for the continent in the U.N.’s principal body responsible for international peace and security.
Bio also invited Ruto to attend the upcoming West Africa Integration and Investment Summit, known as WAIIS 2026.
The summit is being convened under Bio’s leadership and is scheduled for November 17-18 at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Lungi, Sierra Leone, according to the official WAIIS website.
WAIIS is expected to bring together African leaders, investors, development finance institutions and private-sector representatives to discuss regional integration and investment. Its agenda focuses on energy trade, strategic minerals, agribusiness and digital transformation.
Bio’s invitation to Ruto adds a diplomatic dimension to Sierra Leone’s preparations for the summit, which the organizers describe as a platform for advancing regional economic cooperation and investment.
