Rotaract Club of Freetown-Sunset Seeks Over Le240,000 to Complete School Project
The Rotaract Club of Freetown-Sunset is seeking about Le245,000 to complete the construction of Lirem Secondary School in Pentagon, Lumley, Freetown.
The school project was initially started by former club president Alusine Conteh, under whose leadership significant progress was made on the construction. However, the club says additional work and resources are still needed to bring the project to completion.
On Saturday, the club hosted a fundraising dinner to mobilise the remaining funds needed to complete the school.
A member of the club’s fundraising committee, Anthea Brenda Forster, said the club is seeking more than Le200,000, with the majority of the funds expected to cover construction materials and technical expertise.
Speaking at the dinner, Club President Mukeh Rex Bhonapha appealed to attendees to support the project, saying the club’s goal is to provide children with a safe environment where they can learn and work towards achieving their dreams.
“Help us turn this unfinished structure into a place where children can learn, grow and dream,” Bhonapha said.
The fundraising event attracted support from several attendees, who made pledges in cash and construction materials. One attendee pledged 50 bags of cement towards the project.
The Rotaract Club of Freetown-Sunset is made up of young people from different backgrounds who are committed to serving their communities and contributing to national development.
The club has previously undertaken similar community projects. Two years ago, it renovated a school in Liroh Village in Tonkolili District and dedicated the facility to its late member, Sia Kamara, who was reportedly killed by her lover, Abdul Kpaka.
The club says completing the Lirem Secondary School project will further support children in the Pentagon community by providing them with a safer and more conducive environment for learning.
