President Bio Reappoints Macfoy as NCD Commissioner
Aaron Parker President Julius Maada Bio has reappointed Benjamin Macfoy as Commissioner for the Western Area at the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) for another five-year term.
Macfoy, who has been involved in civic education and democratic awareness activities for more than two decades, welcomed the appointment and thanked President Bio for the confidence placed in him.
“I want to thank President Bio for believing in me and for working with me,” Macfoy said, pledging to continue the work he has undertaken at the Commission.
His responsibilities at the NCD have included civic education, electoral awareness, stakeholder engagement and initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ understanding of democratic governance.
Macfoy has also been involved in the Commission’s Children for Democracy Clubs, which were established in schools to introduce young people to democratic principles, responsible citizenship and good governance.
In September 2025, he chaired a Regional Democracy Roundtable organised by the NCD’s Western Regional Office. The engagement brought together representatives of civil society, youth and women’s groups, traditional authorities, local government, policymakers, educators and the media to discuss democratic governance and citizen participation.
His work has also included public education on electoral processes, including the Proportional Representation system used in Sierra Leone’s 2023 parliamentary elections.
Macfoy has represented the NCD on Sierra Leone’s African Peer Review Mechanism Governing Council and has continued to participate in programmes focused on civic awareness and democratic participation.
The reappointment extends his tenure at the NCD as the Commission continues its work in civic education and public awareness across the Western Area.
Macfoy said he remains committed to building on the work already undertaken and using his new term to continue supporting civic education and democratic participation.
